Diploma of Community Services

This qualification reflects the role of community service workers involved in the delivery, management and coordination of person-centred services to individuals, groups, and communities.

At this level, workers have specialised skills in community services and work autonomously within their scope of practice under broad directions from senior management.

Workers support people to make change in their lives to improve personal and social wellbeing and may also have responsibility for the supervision of other workers and volunteers. They may also undertake case management and program coordination.

To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 100 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency.

The skills in this qualification must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State or Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice.

Mode of Delivery: Face-to-face classroom delivery with field work placement activities, 20 hours per week.

Placement: Students must complete 400 hours of work placement as part of this course.


Location of course: Classroom at 946 High Street, Reservoir VIC 3073; fieldwork placement location varies by student.

Entry Requirements

There is no pre-requisites or specific entry requirement for this qualification. This course is available to all international students and Unity Skills College of Hospitality requires that students are able to provide evidence that they:

- Age requirements
Students must be a minimum age of 18 years or above at the time of course commencement.
- Academic Requirements
To enter this qualification, applicants should have successfully completed the equivalent of Australian Year 12 or Certificate IV or higher.
- English Language Requirements
1. Either a minimum IELTS test score of overall 6 with no band less than 5 or equivalent for direct entry, or an IELTS score of overall 5 or equivalent with an ELICOS (up to 20 weeks) to be taken prior to entry into the main VET course. Results older than 2 years are not acceptable.
OR
2. Evidence that, within two years of their application date, students have Successful Completion of AQF Certificate IV in Australia within two years from the start of study.
AND
3. All applicants are to demonstrate the required Literacy and Numeracy competence may undertake the Language Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) test to achieve a result of ACSF level 4 to meet Institute’s entry requirement.
